I was never the kind of person who enjoyed going to the gym, nor did I actually know what to do when I went. I always liked the idea of taking classes that would keep my body and mind engaged the entire time, such as dance or kickboxing. However, when I had gotten engaged and realized I wanted to be in better shape than I currently was for my wedding day, I decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone.
I set up an evaluation with Billy where he could see what my limitations were and what needed work. We then went over all of the things that I was looking for from working out. I recall telling him that I wanted to look awesome and eat whatever I wanted...haha. It seems impossible, right? Well, he agreed to my terms and we began our training relationship. My programs were tailored to me and my needs and definitely kept my mind as busy as my body.
It started very slowly at first, I had no clue what I was doing, and my coordination was somewhat laughable. However, once I got the hang of it things progressed quickly. It was such a great feeling being in a place where everyone is supporting you at any stage and encouraging you to keep going.
It became the thing I looked forward to the most each week to the point where I quickly increased my one time a week to 2-3 times per week. I also started noticing that the stronger I was getting, the better my meal options became. I was not on any diet and had no limitation (as was agreed in my terms), but my body was telling me what it wanted and I was happy to oblige.
I learned fairly early on that I very much enjoyed lifting heavy things and wanted to do more of it. It became a kind of competition with myself to do more and get stronger. When people would ask me how much I lifted I couldn’t wait to tell them that my new tiny 115lb self was deadlifting 185lbs, for reps!
That may not seem like a lot for some people but for me, it was life-changing. I used to always be afraid of stepping on the scale and see the number rise. However, once I started training and gaining muscle I was excited to see my weight increasing. Within only 8 months I had gone up almost 10lbs in muscle and felt the best I had ever felt in my life.
Training at Superior helped me in so many ways that I will forever be grateful for. I value my experience and feel a sense of pride when telling others where I workout. Needless to say, I, in fact, looked awesome on my wedding day! I still ate whatever I wanted, and I had a smile on my face that was truly Superior.
